Animoto
This is a short video I created for the swim team that I coach in the summers on Animoto. However, Animoto is also a great tool for teachers to use. It is a website that allows users to create short videos with music and themes. This is great for classroom use because it is easy to create. Teachers could use this tool to introduce a topic or unit. Animoto could also be used as a "get to know you" project for the teacher as well as the class. Another use for this site is that it could be used at the end of the year for a fun last day of school "memories" video with pictures that have been taken throughout the year. To create a video on Animoto, the user must create a free account and then click "create" under the "slideshow" option. The user is then able to choose a theme for their video. Once the theme is chosen, the user can either add photos of their own or from the internet, but don't forget to provide copyright information! After inserting the photos, the user can also insert titles, captions, or spotlight a photo (make a specific photo show longer on the screen). The music can also be changed to songs from the website or from your own music library. After finishing the Animoto, click "preview." If you like what you see, then you can click publish and the video will be finalized!
Animoto fits into the Danielson Framework and specifically into Component 3C because it is a tool that can be used to keep students engaged. Students will be much more interested if a topic is introduced with a video as opposed to a lecture. This artifact fits specifically with Element 3 because this can easily be a resource for teachers to utilize in their classrooms when teaching lessons that the students may not be very interested in otherwise.
This tool relates to ISTE Standard #3 for Students. Standard 3 is "Knowledge Constructor." This standard is all about students creating their own artifacts and using technology to learn concepts. Animoto is a great and easy tool for students to use for purposes such as these. It also relates to the SAMR model because it is an example of Redefinition. This tool is a completely new and somewhat unconventional way of going about teaching in the classroom. I will use this in my future classroom to introduce myself and then have each of my students create one to introduce themselves to myself as well as to their classmates.
