Designing Coherent Instruction
What is Component 1E?
Component 1E is when an educator creates lessons that are challenging (yet doable) for their students. It also requires teachers to design lessons that grow their students, and it requires all aspects of component 1 to align with each other.
Why do we Need to Know About Component 1E?
This Component 1E is important because teachers need to understand their content, create lessons that help all of the students learn, divide their class in a way that they will learn effectively, and make lessons that will keep the students' attention.
Elements of Component 1E:
The first element of Component 1E is Learning Activities. This element includes engaging students in the lesson so that they will learn the content. It also means that the lessons must be possible for all students to complete, even if that means there needs to be adaptations for certain students. In addition, there must be objectives, assessments, and standards to go along with activities.
Element 2 is Instructional Materials and Resources. This is when the teacher uses technology as a tool to enhance learning, and he/she takes his/her students into consideration when choosing which tools and resources to use for activities and lessons.
The third element of this component is Instructional Groups. This element ensures that when students are split into groups, they are split intentionally in a way that they will best learn. The groups must benefit all of the students.
The last element of Component 1E is Lesson and Unit Structure. This is used when the teacher is creating lessons. Lessons must be easy to understand, and the activities to go along with the lessons must make sense and align with the lesson.
Possible Artifacts:
Possible artifacts for Component 1E are lesson plans, proof of activities, or examples of tools and resources used.
