Communicating with Families
What is Component 4C?
Component 4C is all about letting parents and other family members know what is happening in the classroom. Teachers need to constantly be communicating with families in order to let them know how the student is doing in class, what they struggle with, and how they are progressing.
Why do we Need Component 4C?
Component 4 C is crucial for many reasons. One of those reasons being that parents and families need to know how their students are progressing. Families also may not be able to be as involved in their student's education due to time consuming jobs. Keeping consistent communication with the families will ensure that they are as involved as they are able to be. This communication will also conveys to the family how much the teacher cares for their students and their success.
Elements of Component 4C:
Element 1 of Component 4C is Information About the Instructional Program. Families should be aware of what is going on in the classroom and the content that is being taught. The more they know, the more they can be involved in their child's education.
Element 2 is Information about Individual Students. Parents should know about their child's progress in class and specific areas that they are struggling in/excell in. When parents are aware of the areas in which their child is struggling, they can provide more help and instruction at home.
Element 3 is Engagement of Families in the Instructional Program. Teachers as well as students should be trying to get families engaged in the student's learning. If the family is excited about the content, the student will be also.
Artifacts for Component 4C:
Some artifacts for Component 4C include, a weekly/monthly class newsletter, proof of meetings, phone calls, or emails to family members from the teacher, or a class website.
