Google Form
I used Google Forms to create this student interest survey. Due to the fact that this survey was created for kindergarteners, I created simple questions with photos to go along with the questions as well as the answer options. I created 2 questions about seasons, 2 questions about animals, and 1 question about colors. These topics all fit into the curriculum that the kindergarten students are currently learning. This fits into Component 1F because it is using technology to assess the students on what they know. The survey connects to the first element of the Component because it aligns with the curriculum that the students are learning. It also connects to element 4 which is planning. This is when the teacher uses the assessment as a tool in his/her classroom. This survey can be used as a tool by the cooperating teacher for whom I created it.
I would not change the way I created my survey. I like Google Forms and how easy it was to use. I enjoy the creative aspect of this tool. By this I mean that the creator is able to choose what type of question they want to use (i.e. multiple choice, short answer, etc.) and can choose photos to insert. Google Forms supports pedagogy because it is a tool that furthers knowledge. In my future classroom, I would most likely use Google Forms to save paper when assessing my students. I would also like to use it at the beginning of the year to get to know my students. Google Forms relates to ISTE because teachers can use it to incorporate the ISTE standards into their assessments. This tool relates to the SAMR model because it is a form of Augmentation. While Google Forms does take the place of pencil and paper assessment, it also gives improvements beyond what paper and pencil can do. It relates to growth mindset, because any time a student takes an assessment they must have a growth mindset. They cannot simply give up because they did not do well or they missed a question. Instead, the students need to recognize their mistake and correct it so they can do better in the future.
Using this tool furthered my schema. I learned how to use a new tool that will benefit me in the future as an educator.
