Communicating with Students
What is Component 3A?
Teachers need to be able to connect with their students. This can help build a stronger trust between teacher and student, stronger community within the classroom, as well as a stronger work ethic among the students. Strong student-teacher relationships help the students become more engaged in learning.
Why Do We Need Component 3A?
Students need to be given clear instruction in order to be able to understand what is expected of them. Information should also be presented in a way that makes sense to the students. In addition, teachers need to know their students' interests in order to connect their learning to things they can relate to.
Elements of Component 3A:
The first element is Expectations for Learning. Teachers need to be sure to make their expectations clear to their students. Teachers should also be linking new content to the students' previous knowledge as well as linking the new information to interests and hobbies of the students. The students may then be able to better relate to the information.
Element 2 is Directions and Procedures. Directions as well as procedures need to be clearly stated and easy to understand.
The third element of Component 3A is Explanations of Content. When a teacher is explaining new content to their students, they need to be able to keep the students' attention while still effectively teaching the information.
Lastly, Element 4 is Use of Oral and Written Language. Teachers should be using proper English and language that their students can understand while still building the vocabulary of their students.
Possible Artifacts:
One possible artifact is lesson plans with engaging lessons, clear instruction, and relatable topics. Another artifact could be assignments with clear directions or Remind 101.
