Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport
What is Component 2A?
Component 2A is about making the classroom work for the teacher as well as the students. This component includes making the classroom and learning fun for the students. Students should be in an environment where they gain a desire to learn.
Why do we need Component 2A?
We need Component 2A because students need to have a desire for learning. The environment that they are in can have a very large effect on that desire. This component also includes the environment that the teacher creates with his or her words/body language. Teachers should be respectful of students while also making the rules clear and helping their students learn. Teachers should also show their students that they care, so they can build relationships with their students. This will help build the overall community of the classroom.
Elements of Component 2A:
The first element of this component is Teacher Interaction with Students. Teachers need to be respectful of students and vice versa. Teachers also need to show their students that they care both about them and what is going on in their lives as well as the content that they are teaching. In addition, there should be an established trust between teacher and student. If the students trust you as a teacher, then they will be more willing to take critiques and constructive criticism.
The second element of Component 2A is Student Interaction with Other Students. Students should have friendships within the classroom. They should care for one another and be respectful of each other. This will help build a community as well as trust within the classroom.
Possible Artifacts:
A possible artifact for Component 2A is a demonstration of respect and positive relationships within the classroom.
