Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness
What is Component 3E?
Component 3E is about being able to flexibly change your classroom's schedule or modify your lesson for the day to allow for the best learning experience for your students. Some reasons a schedule or lesson may need to be changed are because students may be too energetic, so the day/lesson may need to be more interactive, or the students may need to take a brain break. Another reason is if the students are not paying attention or clearly not understanding the lesson. In this case, the teacher may need to go about teaching the lesson from a different approach.
Why do we need Component 3E?
We need Component 3E because it is important for teachers to be able to know when their students need a lesson to be taught a different way. Teachers also need to be able to adapt to the situation in their classroom. Another reason we need Component 3E is because teachers need to teach their students real life lessons, and if a conversation about a real life topic comes up, teachers should be able to be flexible and put their plans on hold to teach to that unplanned topic.
Elements of Component 3E:
The first element is Lesson Adjustments. Teachers need to adjust their lessons based on how well it is going while they are teaching it. For example, if students are not enjoying the lesson, are falling asleep, or are not understanding, then teachers need to try going about the lesson from a different approach or perspective. However, when teachers do change their lessons, they need to be able to change it without the students realizing that the lesson has been changed.
Element 2 is Response to our Students. Teachers need to be able to teach to real life moments as they arise in the classroom.
The last element in this component is Persistence. Teachers need to persevere when teaching important academic content, even if the students aren't enjoying the lesson. We still need to find ways to make it enjoyable for them.
Artifacts for Component 3E:
Artifacts for this component include lesson plans, adapted lessons, persistent teaching, or Classflow.
