Kahoot
Kahoot is a gaming tool that teachers can use in their classroom as a fun way to assess their students. It is essentially an online game, which is actually a quiz, that students can play by using their phones or laptops. This is fun for the students because it creates competition within the classroom. Whoever answers the most questions right the quickest, wins the Kahoot. Creating a Kahoot is very easy. All the teacher has to do is sign up for a free account and click create! In order to create the actual quiz, the teacher must insert a title, a description, and start creating questions. There is also an option to insert pictures for the beginning of the quiz, as well as with each question. I will use this assessment tool in my classroom, so I can track students' understanding of the content. This tool also gives immediate anonymous feedback to both teachers and students. This way, teachers can see how many people missed certain questions without actually seeing the specific names. This makes students feel less afraid to fail. Teachers can use this instant feedback as a way to know how much of the class is understanding content.
Kahoot fits into Component 3D because it is a great way to assess students in the classroom while still involving them in something fun. It fits specifically into both elements 2 and 3. Element 2 is Monitoring Students' Learning. This means that teachers need to be making sure the students understand the content, and if the majority of the class does not understand, they can go over it again in class. Element 3 is Feedback to Students. Kahoot is perfect for this element because students as well as teachers can see right away whether they missed the question or not. This tells the teacher what the class as a whole needs to go over again.
I enjoyed how easy it was to create a quiz on Kahoot. This tool relates to growth mindset. Kahoot helps student with their growth mindset because it is anonymous with its feedback. This way, students aren't afraid to fail because they are the only ones who are able to see whether they got the question right or wrong. I will use this tool in my future classroom by incorporating it into my lessons so I can track the understanding of my students.
