Showing Professionalism
What is Component 4F?
Educators must maintain professionalism in their job. This is crucial so that they can gain respect from their administrators, students, and the parents of students.
Why do we need Component 4F?
Teachers must remain honest and professional in the workplace. Society views teachers as people with the highest of morals. Teachers need to try to uphold this standard so the community will have respect for them, their profession, and the school as a whole. Educators should also be involved in the community so people know that they care about the district as a whole.
Elements of Component 4E:
Element 1 of Component 4E is Integrity and Ethical Conduct. Educators are expected to uphold high moral as well as ethical standards. We also must uphold confidentiality in regards to our students. Whenever we as teachers go out into the community, we must watch what we say and do to be sure to uphold the high standards that society holds for us.
Element 2 is Service to Students. Teachers should be forming relationships with their students. Going along with this idea, teachers should be invested in their students' lives, not only academically, but we should also be know what is happening in their lives outside of school. For example, if a student in your class plays baseball and you know he has a game on Saturday, you should go to show your support. This will really show your students that you care.
Element 3 is Advocacy. Teachers need to be the voice for students who may not be able to speak up or speak out for themselves. We need to advocate and stand up for our students.
Element 4 is Decision Making. Teachers need to try to take leadership roles as much as possible so they can stand up for their students and for what is right.
Element 5 is Compliance with School and District Regulations. Educators must meet regulations that are put into place for them by the school and the district. These are put into place for a reason, and we need to follow them.

Possible artifacts for Component 4F are; examples of how you have been professional, examples of leadership roles, and a positive attitude.
