Maintaining Accurate Records
What is Component 4B?
Teachers need to be maintaining records so they can keep track of their students' grades and academic progress. Records of the students' social development should also be kept by the teacher. This is important so teachers will know if students are not adjusting well socially. In addition, if the records are kept- both of academic and social development- teachers can make parents aware if the students are not progressing at the rate of their peers.
Why do we need Component 4B?
Teachers need to know how to adapt or change curriculum or instruction based on how well the students are learning the content. Teachers need to keep these records so they can let parents of the students know if the student is not doing well.
Elements of Component 4B:
Element 1 is Student Completion of Assignments. Records must be kept so teachers can keep track of whether students are turning in their assignments on time, or at all. Students may also be allowed to keep records for themselves.
Element 2 of Component 4B is Student Progress in Learning. Teachers need to know how their students are progressing both individually and also as a class.
The last element of this component is Non-Instructional Records. Teachers need to also keep non-instructional records such as attendance. These types of records are necessary because they allow teachers to track whether their students are showing up to school, ordering lunch, etc.
Artifacts of Component 4B:
Examples of artifacts for Component 4B are records kept, students' personal records, grade books, etc.
