Reflecting on Teaching
What is Component 4A?
It is crucial for teachers to reflect on their lesson plans. Teachers should ask themselves questions after each lesson that is taught. Examples of some reflective questions would be; Did I teach the lesson coherently and clearly? Did the students understand? Were the students able to grasp the content? Etc. These reflections should take place before the next lesson on similar or connected content, or before the next class depending on which one comes first.
Why do we need Component 4A?
If teachers do not reflect on their lessons, they could miss the kids who are not understanding the content or who simply need the lesson to be taught in a different manner or from a different approach in order to understand and truly be able to apply the information.
Elements of Component 4A:
The first element of Component 4A is Accuracy. Teachers need reflection to determine whether their lesson was accurate. If a lesson is not completely accurate, then the students will learn the wrong information and carry that on throughout their lives.
Element 2 is Use in Future Teaching. This simply means that teachers need to reflect in order to see how the can improve in the future. This helps teachers to learn from their mistakes.
Possible Artifacts:
Some possible artifacts for this component include; lesson plans with reflection questions or written down ways to improve or critiques of a lesson you have created.
