Participating in a Professional Community
What is Component 4D?
Component 4D is all about being involved in a professional community. Teachers should be a part of a community such as this so that they can open up to other teachers who are able to relate to them. This creates a kind of support system for teachers. Teachers should also be involved in their school's events and meetings.
Why do we need Component 4D?
Teachers need to be a part of a professional community because they will be able to have a support system with other teachers. The teachers can also collaborate and come up with ideas for lessons, projects, etc. A professional community should not only be with other teachers in their school, but also with teachers throughout their state, the country, and even the world.
Elements of Component 4D:
Element 1 is Relationships with Colleagues. Teachers need to be supportive and encouraging of one another. They also need to work together to plan events, meetings, lessons, curriculum, etc.
Element 2 is Involvement in a Culture of Professional Inquiry. Teachers should continue building their PLN and being involved in a culture of professional inquiry by attending conferences and meetings. They also must support the others in their professional community.
