Managing Student Behavior
What is Component 2D?
Teachers must be in control of their classroom. They must be able to manage their students' behavior while also letting their students know what they expect of them as a class. Teachers can use behavior charts, websites, or set goals for their classroom to make sure their students are aware of their expectations.
Why Do We Need Component 2D?
We need this component because it creates a much more pleasant and healthy classroom environment. Behavior management also helps lessons and the class in general run more smoothly as well. However, while the students' behavior should be managed, they should still feel safe and cared for in the classroom.
Elements of Component 2D:
The first element of this component is Expectations. The students should know what you are expecting of them as their teacher. These expectations should also be laid out clearly and in a way that the students can understand them.
The second element is Monitoring Student Behavior. Teachers should know what is going on in their classroom at all times. While the teacher should always be aware of where the students are and how they are behaving, the teacher should not be watching their students to the point that it is distracting or disruptive.
The last element of Component 2D is Response to Student Misbehavior. This element is all about discipline and how to handle misbehavior. If a student misbehaves, the teacher should respond respectively and effectively.
Possible Artifacts:
Some artifacts could be behavior charts, websites such as Class Dojo and classroom rules posted in the class.
