3-5th Grade Intense Behavior Short-Term Substitute
I completed a short-term substitute position in an Intense Behavior classroom at Mohawk Elementary School from the beginning of May 2021, until the end of the 2020-2021 school year. My time in this position, although short, provided me with invaluable teaching experience. During my time, I monitored students in the Intense Behavior (IB) classroom, checked in on students in their general education classrooms, and helped students complete their tasks inside of the IB classroom. Additionally, I monitored student breaks and took data on student behavior levels throughout each day. In the classroom where I was a substitute, data was taken on each student every 5 minutes. This allowed the IB teachers, instructional assistants in the classroom, the general education teachers, and all related service providers to see patterns in behaviors. The data also allowed the teachers to see how students were progressing with their behavior goals. Throughout the experience, I learned new ways to redirect students who were off task, as well as new behavior management strategies. These skills will be extremely helpful in my future as an educator.
