Setting Instructional Outcomes
What is Component 1C?
Objectives show students what they will be learning and what will be expected of them by the end of the lesson. They also relate back to curriculum and state standards.
Why do we need to know about Component 1C?
Objectives keep a teacher on track. They guide the lessons and ensure that the teacher is sticking to the state standards. They also help the teacher lay out the outcomes of his/her lesson ahead of time so he/she knows exactly what material to go through. In addition, objectives can help the educator to relate his/her lesson to things that the students might better understand.
Elements of Component 1C:
The first element of this component is Value, Sequence, and Alignment. This element means that the objectives of a lesson are present and they must correlate to state standards. It also ensures that lessons are created in a way that makes sense.
The second element is Clarity. This is exactly how it sounds. It means that objectives must be clearly laid out and must make sense to the teacher and students.
The third element of Component 1C is Balance. This element includes making sure the objectives are varied in type and making sure these objectives include the ability to recall facts, interpret information, apply abstractions methods to solve a problem, ability to understand parts of the whole (bb.plsweb.com, 2014).
Lastly, objectives must be suitable for Diverse Learners. This simply means that objectives are individualized to the students and they are different for each assignment given.
Possible Artifacts:
Possible artifacts for Component 1C are lesson plans with objectives or activities or worksheets that show that the objectives were met.
